Individual Therapy for Children and Adolescents

Individual psychology sessions offer a safe space for young people to express their thoughts and feelings, and will focus on not only addressing the symptoms they are experiencing (e.g. anxiety), but the factors contributing to and underlying the difficulties.

I draw on a range of therapeutic modalities including play therapy, attachment based interventions, psychoanalytic therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I use a range of different approaches and techniques when working with a young person in order to flexibly meet their treatment goals.

Parent Sessions

Parent sessions are at times recommended alongside a young person’s individual therapy, or as a standalone treatment. These sessions provide a separate space for parents to discuss what is happening for their child. This may involve helping parents to make sense of their child’s behaviour, find alternate ways of supporting their child in times of distress, reflecting on how their own experiences influence how they respond to their child, reflecting on whether current ways of interacting are unhelpful, considering different approaches to parenting, or helping to re-connect with their child and improve their relationship.
